Definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results.

If I were a sabres fan, I'd rather the team look at Darryl Sutter.

I liked the Cup runs in 99 and 06 - I liked being in the playoffs almost every year -

Thomas Vanek was gambling hardcore behind the scenes the year he got fired. Ryan Miller was washed up - Derek Roy was mush - Pommers was always a complimentary player -

Shouldn't have been fired.

Lindy Ruff needed to be fired when he was and probably should have been sooner. I liked Ruff as much if not more than the next guy but after some time a coaches message gets stale. Ruff miss managed a number of players at the end and that was his downfall. Myers had a great start when he was allowed to do what he was good at then the next year Ruff tried to push him too much to change his game and it backfired. That is just one example of the miss management of his players. I would not mind having Ruff back as there are probably 1 or 2 people left on the team that would have played for him in the past. I do think if we have a shot at Sutter that would be the #1 pick but it all depends on the GM that we bring in and what they want to build around.

I remember Garth's blogs ranting on why Babcock would choose to go to Toronto instead of the Sabre position. Best decision Babs ever made.

I wonder if Garth will still be claiming this if he is hired by another team.

So does the murrenacy stay in Buffalo or does it leave town as well?

And, are all of Buffalo picks still premium picks or are they just regular picks now?

One thing for sure, regardless of the next GM and head coach, Garth will claim that they're both the most brilliant hockey minds in the world - just like he did when GMTM and Byslma were hired.

Don't quote me on this, but I believe the accumulated Murrency has now vanished and the premium picks, go back to just being plain old draft picks.
I have called the NHL office in NY and await confirmation on this. Will advise ASAP

Murrency had become so worthless it was becoming comparable to Zimbabwe dollars

4th liners were going to cost 10 million just to step foot in Buffalo

The Pegulas had to act to save the teams economy

Ya, I think that's his downfall. He gave a hell of a lot to get Kane and Bogo (but if we're being honest he really was just in love with Kane and Bogo was a necessary evil/reclamation project), the O'Reilly deal was awesome, i don't even care if it wasn't the best use of assets. Lehner is weird because he's good but I would have tried to go after Martin Jones before Lehner because I think he was cheaper. Anyways, I can pick apart all of his moves but not addressing the defense was the riverboard gambler part. I have faith he would have addressed it in the offseason but it shouldn't have gotten to this point. Psysk was a good dman for us, if you trade him, you go big, kulikov was a moderate upgrade and murray thinking they were able the same or Kuli was an upgrade and then he got asplund out of it. If you have a glaring need at defense you swing for the fences, you don't potentially further screw yourself over by trying to squeeze assets. I know injuries are the biggest reason why kulikov's trade was garbage, but we'll never know, and it just shows how much keeping Pysyk as a security deposit was a good idea. This is also knowing full well that there are really good defenseman available in the 2016 draft in the first round and still stocking up on forwards when you absolutely need dmen. For me the biggest thing is Murray always talked about being overprepared for every situation, and I believe him, but how he didn't think his defense was overly thin even with kulikov, I'll never know why he took that risk, we had most other things set. Without that slick transition pass the forwards can't start the jump, it just looks sloppy in retrospect.

Really, O'Reilly was an awesome deal? 7.5M a year for a 2nd line center, 18-20 goal a year man? Kadri is a similar player at 5M a year.

I would have liked O'Reilly at 6-6.5 but you have to pay dude's like that. They got Kadri by drafting 7th overall in 2009, we wanted a stabilizing guy to lead our younger better guys. We had to pay a little bit to do that. Plus as Reinhart is showing, and kadri showed, guys don't develop overnight, sometimes that's because they're garbage, or they just take longer to cook. I don't hate the O'Reilly move at all. Losing Zadarov might bite us but if we drafted a dman last year in the first round, we might not have missed him too much.
